부활의 의미 행 4: 13-22, 이사야 63:
예수님의 부활 사건이야말로 기독교 신앙의 가장 중요한 주초 돌 중의 하나이다. 그러나 무리들은 좀체로 이것을 믿으려고 하지 않았다. 예수님의 제자들은 자기들의 눈으로 보고 손을 만졌다고 증언을 해도 무리들은 잘 믿으려고 하지 않았다. 대 사제들은 제자들이 무덤에서 예수의 시체를 훔쳐다 감추고 거짓 선전을 한다고 반박했다.
그들이 그렇게 말하는 것을 일단 이해할 수도 있다. 어떻게 죽은 사람이 돌문을 열고 나올 수 있다는 말인가. 사실 복음서에 있는 부활 기사들을 자세히 읽어보면 설명하기 힘든 곳이 많다. 제일 먼저 기록이 된 마가 복음서를 보면 한 젊은이가 무덤에 나타나서 찾아온 여인들에게 예수님은 부활하셔서 갈릴리로 갔으니 제자들더러 그곳에 가서 그를 만나라고 전하라는 말로 끝났다. 부활하신 예수님은 나타나지도 않는다. 마태 복음서에 보면 제자들이 갈릴리에서 예수를 만나는 장면이 나온다. 그런데 예수를 만난 제자 중에 의심하는 자가 있었다고 기록이 되어 있다. 부활한 예수님을 만났는데 의심한다는 것은 어딘가 석연하지 않다.
누가복음서에는 부활하신 예수님이 예루살렘 주변에서만 나타나셨다. 엠마오로 내려가다가 예수님을 만난 두 제자도 오래 동안 예수님을 알아보지 못했다. 요한 복음서에 있는 디베리아 호수 가에 나타나신 예수님 역시 신비로왔다. 제자들이 그를 잘 알아보지 못했다. 그러기에 많은 사람들이 예수님이 다시 사셨다는 것을 믿기 히들어 하는 것은 이해가 된다.
그러나 제자들은 예수님이 다시 사셨다는 것과 그가 저들과 같이 계신다는 것을 믿어 의심하지 않았다. 그것을 우리는 제자들의 변화를 보아서 안다. 예수님이 잡히셨을 때의 제자들은 어떠했는가? 모두 두려워서 거름아 날 살려라 하고 도망하지 않았는가? 그런데 사도행전 4 장에 있는 이야기를 보라. 대사제들이 예수의 부활을 전하지 말라고 명하는데도 저들은 당당하게 “우리가 하느님의 말씀보다 당신들의 말을 들어야 한다는 말이오. 우리는 보고들은 것을 말하지 않을 수 없소“ 하고 당당하게 맞섰다.
이것을 보고 대 사제의 무리들도 놀랐다는 것이다. 배운 것이 없고 무식한 저들이 이렇게 자신 있게 말하는 것을 보고 감탄하지 않을 수가 없었다. 저들은 제자들이 예수님의 시체를 훔쳐가고 거짓 선전을 한다고 하지만 거짓말을 위해서 목숨을 바치는 자란 있을 수 없다. 확실히 저들은 다시 사신 예수님을 만나는 경험을 했다.
그들이 다시 사신 예수님을 만났고 그가 저들과 같이 산다는 다른 한 증거가 있다. 그들은 예수님의 삶과 가르침을 바르게 이해하고 이를 전하지 않을 수 없게 되었다는 사실이다. 예수님이 살아 계셨을 때 저들은 예수님을 제대로 이해하지 못했었다. 그래서 여러 차례 예수님에게 책망을 들었다. 자기들의 야망에 사로잡혀서 예수님의 삶도 가르침도 깨닫지 못했었던 것이다. 그러나 부활하신 예수님을 만나고 그의 영을 받자 저들은 예수님에게서 나타난 생명의 진리를 깨닫고 이를 전하지 않고는 견딜 수가 없었다.
사실 요한 복음서 16장 13절에 예수님은 그가 떠나신 뒤 성령을 보내실 텐데 그가 오시면 제자들이 진리를 깨닫고 새사람이 될 것이라고 말씀하셨다. 그러기에 제자들이 새 사람이 되었다는 것이야말로 예수님은 다시 사셨고 영으로 제자들과 같이 계신다는 증거가 된다. 제자들이 새 사람으로 부활 한 것이야말로 그가 살아 계신다는 확실한 증거다.
맺는 말
예수님의 삶과 가르침에 영원한 생명의 진리가 있다고 우리는 믿는가? 그렇다면 우리는 부활한 예수님을 만난 것이다. 그의 삶과 가르침이 우리를 새 사람으로 만들었는가? 그렇다면 부활하신 예수님의 영이 우리와 같이 계시는 것이다. 그러기에 우리는 항상 그가 땅 위에서 사신 모습을 바라보고 그의 가르침을 마음에 삭여서 그와 하나가 되는 삶을 살자. 그렇게 함으로 다시 사신 예수님을 천하에 증거하자.
The Meaning of Jesus‘ Resurrection Act 4: 13-22
The resurrection of Jesus is one of the corner stones of the Christian faith. However, it is very difficult for the world to accept it. Even though his disciples proclaimed it, saying "we have seen with our eyes and touched him with our hands", people were not willing to believe it. High priests insisted that the disciples stole the body of Jesus from the tomb and fabricated the story of the resurrection.
We cannot really blame them for not believing it. How can a dead person come back to life and walk away, pushing the heavy stone from the tomb? Even the resurrection stories in the Gospel are not clear and conflicting. The Gospel of Mark, the earliest writing about the life of Jesus, does not tell us about the appearance of the risen Lord. It ends with a story of a young man who told the women who visited the tomb to tell the disciples to go to Galilee where the risen Lord was waiting for them.
The Gospel according to Matthew tells us the story of Jesus meeting his disciples on a mountain in Galilee where Jesus told them to go to the end of the world and teach what Jesus taught them. But strangely the text says that "some of them doubted." It must have been unclear to some of them that it was the risen Lord. Isn't it strange?
In the Gospel according to Luke, the risen Lord appeared only around Jerusalem. Two disciples were going to Emmaus and Jesus accompanied them, explaining to them the meaning of the resurrection event and the disciples did not know who he was until they reached a village. The story is again ambiguous. No wonder people hesitate to believe these stories.
In the last chapter of the Gospel according St. John, the risen Lord appeared his disciples by the lake Tiberia. There again some of the disciples were wondering who he was.
However, the biblical records tell us clearly that the disciples believed firmly in the resurrection of their master and his presence with them. We can see that by observing the complete change which took place in their lives. How were the disciples when Jesus was arrested? They were so frightened and ran away from the scene leaving Jesus alone in the hands of his enemies. But in the fourth chapter of the Book of Acts, we see completely different disciples. To the high priests who sternly warned them not to tell the story of the risen Lord, they boldly replied, saying "Should we obey you or obey God? We cannot stop speaking what we have seen and heard." The high priests were amazed to see how bold Peter and John were and to learn that they were ordinary men of no education. They accused them of having stolen the body of Jesus and lying about His resurrection. But no one can risk their lives for lies. There is no doubt at all that they had experiences of meeting the risen Lord.
There is another poof that they met the risen Lord and live with his spirit. When Jesus was with them they did not understand him and often they were rebuked by Jesus for their slowness of understanding. Their personal ambition blocked them from understanding. But after witnessing the risen Lord and receiving his spirit, they understood the meaning of life and teaching of their master. Actually Jesus had told them that they would understand him when they receive the Holy Spirit whom he was going to send to them after his death. (John 16,13) The fact that the disciples came to understand their master and lived in his spirit was the most profound proof that they had met the risen Lord.
Do we believe that in the life and teaching of Jesus, there is the truth which can give us an eternal life? Then we have faith in the risen Lord. Has his life and teaching made us a new human being? Then the spirit of the risen Lord is within us. Let us become one with him by remembering always how Jesus lived, died, and rose again. Let us constantly meditate on his teaching that our lives may be filled with meaning and joy. That is the best way we can witness to the risen Lord.
