look, seem and appear
Look, seem and appear are all copular verbs and can be used in a similar way to indicate the impression you get from something or somebody. Copula verbs join adjectives (or noun compounds) to subjects:예문She looks unhappy.He seems angry.They appear (to be) contented. .seem / appear to + infinitive
After seem and appear we often use a to + infinitive construction ( or a perfect infinitive construction for past events).They appear to have run away from home. They cannot be traced.예문I seem to have lost my way. Can you help me?It seems to be some kind of jellyfish. Do not go near it.They appear not to be at home. Nobody's answering.They do not appear to be at home. No one's answering.We can also use a that-clause after It seems?... and It appears...,

제가 의문을 가졌던 문법입니다. 회사 다닐때 회사로 와서 영어 고급반을 지도하던 강사가 외국에서온 한국인이었는데,
질문에 답을 못하더군요.
그 후 유심히 쓰이는 과정을 살펴보니
look 다음에는 형용사를 그대로 받고 --- looks good, looks fine
appear 나 seem 다음에는 형용사거 그대로 쓰이기도하고, 또는 to + 원형동사가 쓰이기도 하더군요.

seem이나 appears는 copula verbs 또는 linking verb, 즉 연결계사로서의 이 단어는 크게 세가지 용법으로 사용되는 것같습니다. seems/seems to be 양자가 혼용되는 것은 미국식 영어에서 강하지 않은가 감히 짐작해 봅니다. 결론은 언어란 살아있는 생물과 같아서 사람들이 많이 쓰면 그렇게 흘러가는 것이겠죠. 아래 두 분류는 롱멘 사전의 설명을 따랐습니다.
첫째, 형용사와 함께 (seem/appear + 형용사): When “seem’ is followed by an adjective, "to be" is usually avoided.
Even the teacher seemed to be unable to answer the question. (x)
Even the teacher seemed unable to answer the question. (o)
She seemed to be very sorry for causing so much trouble (x)
She seemed very sorry for causing so much trouble (o)둘째, 명사구와 함께 (seem/appear + 명사구)
There appears/appeared +to be + noun prase(seem)
There appears to be a haphazard attitude among the younger generation.(o)
