New United Church Website

Prayer. Action. Community.

The United Church of Canada now has a new website! Built around themes of "prayer, action, and community," the new website features a visual design that makes it easy to engage with the work and faith of the United Church. Among the new and upgraded features are:
  • Worship Resources section with services, prayers, and resources organized by liturgical date and special Sundays
  • Social Action section with a focus on "Take Actions" and other justice initiatives
  • A section for Church Administration offering the information, policies, and tools needed to run your church, camp, or other ministry
  • A new Locator, to find ministers, church staff, camps, chaplaincies, education centres, Affirming Ministries, and more!
  • An improved Search function which will make it easy to find what you are looking for
And much more! New content and information will continue to be added to the website. Check back often! Now online at United-Church.ca. Take a look!

Help Shape the United Church's Future

The 42nd General Council made major decisions to transform the structure of The United Church of Canada that do not take effect unless the broader church approves them through the “remit” process. The eight remits, with background information about each, are now available at GC42.ca/remits. We need to hear from the governing bodies of pastoral charges on five of these proposals, and from the governing bodies of presbyteries on all eight. Information about webinars and video presentations will also be available by spring.

Please read the material online, then send Alison Jordan your pastoral charge or presbytery’s decision on the paper ballots being mailed out in the next week. Questions about these remits can be emailed to remits@united-church.ca.

Syria Refugee Update

Thanks to your generosity, as of February 2016 the United Church has received over $900,000 to support partners responding to the Syrian refugee crisis. Help is still needed for refugees fleeing violence and war in Syria. The Canadian government will match individual donations made up to February 29, 2016. Find out how you can help

Social Innovation Challenge

Co-sponsored by EDGESocial Innovation Challenge is an opportunity for people with ideas to meet with funders who want to support people and projects that are committed to making changes in their local neighbourhoods and communities. Ideas should focus on one or more of the following areas: economic, social, environmental, and spiritual.

Innovators will have an opportunity to meet with mentors to help shape their initiative before presenting it to funders and other change makers. The finalists are awarded start up money for their project. Find out more on the Social Innovation Challenge website and join us at one of these upcoming events:

May 6-7: Toronto
May 12-13: Montreal
