Alaska Highway, a road in Alaska and Canada. It is 1,390 miles (2,237 km) long. Beginning at Dawson Creek, British Columbia, the Alaska Highway runs generally northwestward through northern British Columbia, southern Yukon Territory, and east-central Alaska to Delta Junction, where it merges with the Richardson Highway.

The Alaska Highway was built during World War II, in 1942-43, by United States troops as a supply route for armed forces in Alaska. It was maintained by the United States as a military road until 1946, when the Canadian portion was turned over to Canada. The highway was opened to the public in 1947.

The Alaska Highway
The Alaska Highway is the only highway that connects Alaska with the roads of the other U.S. states and Canada.
